A Rant Concerning Cry Babies That Don't Love America

In today’s SL Trib, Paul Rolly writes about Sen. Margaret Dayton, Republican of Orem as allowing a voucher advocate to speak at a public meeting of the Legislative Interim Education Committee. Apparently, the advocate Leah Barker wasn’t even on the agenda was given a forum even though there was not enough time to allow public comment on proposed legislation. Rolly, mentions that during Baker’s “update on private scholarships,” she wined about the voucher defeat and had Oreos placed at each committee member’s seat.

Did Baker think she’d make people regret their votes by them looking at Oreos? We all know the so called
Oreo argument is flawed, if it wasn’t, maybe voucher would have passed. My thought was that the private school cookie jar only holds a finite number of students and already contains a few packages. How many cookies could actually be taken to public schools and put into private schools? It would seem foolish to think, as the Oreo ad seemed to imply, that one stack of Oreos would be taken out of each public classroom. Following the defeat of his pet project Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne, put it this way in an Op-Ed piece:
Here is why Utah's public schools will likely worsen: For 15 years costs have
been expanding at 7.9 percent annually. Our schools' current enrollment of
540,000 kids will swell to 700,000 in 10 years, another 30 percent increase. In
real terms, the cost of Utah's public education system will double over 10
years. Therefore, simply to stay even we must double tax revenues or class
sizes.

I imagine that additional 160,000 student will certainly find a home in private school.

My biggest beef is that it seems voucher advocates hate America and hate the values Americans stand for. I mean, isn’t America all about power to the people? We are a democracy are we not? I would argue that a referendum is the purest form of democracy we can experience. The only time the people hold all the power. And the people have spoken, or more so they have yelled their opposition to this conservative welfare.

When Byrne said Utah flunked an IQ test (which he later changed to insanity test) just go to show that these people don’t like people to have power. I suppose they would be better off in some Communist country or maybe some theocracy like Saudi Arabia where the people’s opinion doesn’t matter. All the matters is the ability of the powerful to exert power. Down to the Man and power to the people.

The people have spoken against the tendency of Utah Republican’s habit of serving their own interest while ignoring those of the people. They have spoken against these same politicians thinking they always know best, that they are the wisest, and those opposed are ignorant. I’d be scared if I was a right-winger coming into this next election. I’d like to see how they answer to the people now that they’ve reclaimed their post as the Boss.
